18/01/2024(Tomka) Based on external data sets from visualcapitalist, The Worldbank, and Stock exchanges PLPG offers a quick overview on how innovation impacts the value of an enterprise.
First of all: how was it done? Based on the data sets of the innovation ranking of visualcapitalist, PLPG related the market capitalization of a company to the innovation rank, equaled in value along side the US-dollar and alongside the PPP (Purchase Power Parity) provided by the Worldbank.
Therefore, the focus is strictly on the innovation which causes the huge gaps between some groups of companies (comp. points).
A quick summary shall provide the main insights. The most successful country concerning innovation is – non-surprisingly – the USA. 10 of 15 companies are based there. This for four main reasons:
- The innovation culture is highly developed and goes along with huge personal benefits.
- The stock market is highly developed and it goes along with personal benefits and payment models (like stock options for employees).
- The US-dollar is the basic currency of all data.
- The USA stands as model also in the PPP calculations of the Worldbank with 1.0 as coefficient.
China is No. 2 in this ranking with two companies although it is already No.1 concerning the GDP. And concerning the PPP China´s GDP would even be higher.
The main industry is technology. Eight companies of 15 are working in this field.
On second rank mobility and energy are to be found, while consumer goods see a slight decrease. Therefore, it can be said: innovation mainly is identified with technology.
That shows that innovation – and what people think that innovation is – has a huge impact on the market capitalization. Investors go for new ideas – which are considered to be found massively within the technology industry.
